Tip one: Use as many wardrobe boxes as possible to cut sown on the packing of clothes, most of us have more clothes than anything else; especially us women.
Tip two: Shoe boxes can be obtained for free from the US Postal Service website. You can order up to twenty at a time. Take advantage of the free packaging. The boxes are sturdy and made for the task.
Tip three: Make boxes light. Less than 50 pounds each is ideal. No back pain and easy moving, and less physical strain leaving more energy for bigger items.
Tip four: Mark all boxes for the room that they will go into in the new place. This helps with unpacking and the movers will appreciate this too. They won’t need to continually ask you “where do you want this.”
Tip five: Use any luggage that you have for packing small items like sheets, towels and other odds and ends.
Tip six: Put all important paperwork in an accordion style folder or carrier and keep these with you at all times. Getting these things loss can be one of the biggest hassles to resolve.
Tip seven: Safeguard any of your valuables. As much as we would like to think that we can trust the movers or ourselves for that matter; thefts and missing items do happen. Make sure you take all necessary precautions to protect your valuables during the move.
Tip eight: For those hard to pack items in the garage. The lawn mower, edger, tools, and other garage or shed stuff. Collect all the tools and secure them together with tape or rope and box them. Empty all fluids from lawn equipment and disassemble any lawn and garden furniture for easy moving and packing.
